Cornyn urges Democrats to allow vote on oil

FORT WORTH - In a speech in Fort Worth on Saturday night, Sen. John Cornyn called on the Democratic leaders of Congress to allow an immediate vote on expanding domestic production of oil. Cornyn, R-Texas, was the keynote speaker at a gala celebrating the 20th anniversary of Fort Worth Republican Women. "Unfortunately, we see a Democratic leadership in the United States Congress that seems just obsessed with the November election and doesn't want to do anything except to try and gain political advantage that they think will help them in the election," Cornyn said. Voting for more drilling would lower the price of oil quickly by signaling to the financial community that the U.S. supply was going to expand, he said. As for the election, Cornyn said he is looking forward to debating Rick Noriega, his Democratic opponent. "We're talking about the formats and how many, but I think come September, certainly not later than October, we'll be teeing it up," he said.
