This is a "DEAR JOHN" email for Senator Cornyn. I belong to a small but growing group of PO"d republicans/independant conservatives that are fed up with our party and the direction it is headed, down the "crapper". No one in Washington in the Republican Congress ,nor the President, has the "guts, nerves, backbone"or what ever you want to call it to standup to the Democrats and tell them this "plan, bailout" or what ever its called now is still a "SHAM". If you and other republicans can't standup and get things like the Marked Markets provision, the "golden parachutes", and the capital gains business taxes some relief and stop all amounts of dollars going to "ACORN" stopped completely then this no better than the bill that the House turned down and we all are going to just hand over $700 billion dollars to the same irresponsible "A__HOLES that caused the problems to start with, the "DAMN-A-CRAPS. Barney Franks,Chris Dodd and several other ranking democrats should be brought up on corruption charges and throughly investigated for their involvement in the failure of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. But back to the vote on the "bailout" tonight. For those republicans who choose to  be lead  by the nose down the same old path the democrats want to lead you, and I must include you sir in that list, will find it very very hard to find the votes you need for your re-election. We, even as small as we may be now,but I assure you we are strong and growing every day, will not and can not support anyone or party that supports this "CRAP SANDWICH"no matter how thin you try to slice it. If senators like you,Kay Bailey Hutchinson and others don't talk to John McCain and talk and I mean talk hard to him ad convince him to stop laying down and let Obama treat him like a low classed third rate dumbass, he doesn't have a snowball chance in hell on November 4. Even sweet lil' Sara Palen can't help him. He has got to remember how to fight like he did as a POW in Hanoi. PLEASE, PLEASE John, talk with others and stop this train wreck now so we can continue to support you and the Republican Party.

Mr. Senator,

Please vote NO! to this bailout package.  Even with all the new bells and whistles that were added to try to push this through, this is still a rushed and horribly thought out piece of legislation for the American people.   Please don't put us on the hook for this.  If intervention is needed, there are much better options out there.  A "NO!" vote is the only way you can vote to truly represent the interests of your constituents in this matter.

Senator - you must vote NO on the Senate version of the "bail-out"....there is absolutely no way to make any sense of this scare tactic.  Normal, everyday folks in this country work long hard hours for pay checks we believe to be fair or well - earned....if we get a small bonus at the end of the year, we're grateful.  There is no amount of tweaking that the Senate can do to make this pig smell any better....Wall Street needs to pony up and bail itself out of the mess they made, and the governement has allowed.  Greed has come home to roost.  It is time for the leadership of this country to use common sense....Vote NO!

It's refreshing to have a Senator that can be easily contacted about key issues that will affect the rest of our live, the lives of our kids, and possible the lives of our grandkids. AT this time, vote No for the bailout. The sky has not dropped  yet. Things are tough and they are probably going to get tougher. But Americans will weather the storm and come out victorious in the end.

It is sad and shameful that the leaders of this great country have come up with this very bad solution.  A BAILOUT! While the criminals are not being investigated nor been asked to return the money they stole. VOTE NO!

I am completely against the bailout plan!  The people on wall street are greedy and corrupt.  They reward themselves with huge pay raises at the expense of others.

What about the middle class american that is now being affected by this financial crisis.  Who cares about us?  Who cares if we can NOT afford our electric bill because we have to choose between groceries for our children and gas to get to work.  NO one will bail us out!  When we make mistakes ( as these banks have done), we are given more fees and penalties. We are not helped , we do not get a bonus we are told to pay the bill or have the service turned off.

Again, I am against this bail out plan completely.

Sincerely,

Jacquelynn Webb

Vote NO on the bail out bill it is wrong for America!

Vote against any Government bailout! The banks that made the poor lending decisions, should be forced to sell the properties on the open market, at discounted prices -  or otherwise, let um fail. They can probably raise billions of dollars within a few months, if they were to sell their mortgages for 50 cents on the dollar. Oh well! And if they loose 50%, then the executives and board members should have to forfeit half of their pay! Maybe that will teach them a lesson, instead of bailing them out!

Luckily the newest version of the bailout failed.  Why put most of the burden on the taxpayers when it is the financial institutions that messed everything up.  All during that time the CEOs were getting huge bonuses.  Although I am only a sopmore college student I feel i need to voice my opinion about this matter so that the market can settle before I have to step into it after I graduate.  there are also good and honest people out there that are taking the brunt of this and they did not do anything wrong.

It is critically important that John Cornyn and our congress men and women support the so called "bailout".  Many citizens simply do not understand that the government will buy illiquid mortgage securities from the financial institutions to provide needed capital to the companies so that they can continue lending.  If lending is not possible our citizen will have trouble buying homes, cars and other essentials.  When consumers and businesses are not spending, companies must down size and people lose jobs.  Reduced jobs = more people on unemployment and reduced tax dollars to the government.  I believe most people do not want to give the financial institutions a free ride and I agree with that.  The bailout is not a free ride.  We the American people are buying mortgages that can provide income and hopefully have the investments return principal and possible gains.  The bailout is critical to our economy.  VOTE YES.

I am a firm believer in the free market system and don't like the current bailout.  Please consider voting against it.  Another plan would be to change the accounting system from mark to market (a scam) to basic accounting principals and make it a work-out progam for the failed institutions.  I could support this plan.

Thank you.

The bailout is not something I support. I am a daughter of the depression generation. I lived through the Savings and Loan as a woman straight out of college. My resume looked like a tombstone for companies. Many unwise decisions worked themselves out by the S & L crisis. I survived being unemployed only at the most of two weeks. It is not easy, but $700 Billion is ridiculous for a taxpayer and voter that has paid our mortgage on time for 18 years. We bought what we knew we could afford, not what any lender told us we could. We have raised three strappin boys in a 1400 sq foot home, and yes it is very modest. It is what on a bad day we can make payments on. We drive three old cars, we do what we have to get by.

No sound logic makes sense to me that will allow me to endorse a bailout, many economists are "just trying to scare me", and I am not buying the goods. If I lived through Carter, and all the economic crap than I can live through this!

I watched the Dems play politics with the announcement of it on Saturday night.  A lot of thanking everyone with a (D) next to their name for all their hard work, but ZERO details.  Now what little I'm hearing about details sounds no better than the original proposal: to invest $700B in bad loans with the expectation that somehow there will be payback from it.  If there were any chance these were good loans, banks and investors would be lininv up for them.  And now on Monday, again we have this attitude of "no time to worry about the details, just vote it through."  That alone should be enough to raise a red flag for anyone!

We are tumbling down the slippery slope of socialism.  The bailout was ordained with the Community Reinvestment Act almost 30 years ago that forced lenders to loan money to unqualified borrowers.  To not do so was considered redlining and subjected the lender to punitive action by Federal Regulators.  To quote someone from the other party -- "You can put lipstick on a pig...."

Senator Cornyn,

To start with, I know you are doing what you consider is the best for your fellow Texans. I have spoken with several economist on the bailout and the overall feeling I have found is that this bailout if it succeeds would be good.  But note the key word "IF".  This plan is a 700 Billion dollar gamble and "IF" it doesn't work, we would worse off than if it were left alone.  Wall Street made some very bad decisions, most of them were forced on them by the Democratic Party and their utopian view where everyone owns a nice home while living on an apartment budget.  I heard this evening that the "Plan" will include renegotiating the mortgages for thousands of people who are in danger of forclosure.  This is foolish at best.  If they can't afford to pay for their homes over a 30 year period, what are we going to do? Give them 50 years to pay back the loan.  You and I both know that this part of the plan will only postpone the inevitable. We need to let the people who can't afford to be in the homes start over.  Let them find a home that is within their budget and give them a real chance at the American Dream and get them out of the American Fantasy Carter and Clinton sold them on.

America is the land of the free!  We are free to succeed but we are also free to fail.  We learn our lessons from our failures but if Uncle Sam bails us out, the lessons are not learned.  In the movie "Air Force One" the Vice President makes a statement: "If you give a mouse a cookie, he will want a glass of milk."  Sir, we have already given the mouse a cookie and a dairy.  How much more do we have to give?

I ask you to vote "No" to this bailout proposal.  One more thing, absolutely no pork!

Sincerely,

David A Hill

I am against the idea os bailing out corrupt Wall St. companies. I don't have time to read the whole 110 pages of the proposed bill. It is a complex issue that has no easy solution. I am for bailing out the innocent people who got hurt in this mess. If there is someway to bailout the individuals and not the companies that caused all this trouble, then I would for it.

Do not vote for the bailout!  It is bad for America.  The Federal Reserve is a huge part of the problem. Don't make them richer.

My thoughts on the bailout plan?  I'm HORRIFIED by it. I'm DISGUSTED by it. How much more of MY money is MY government going to take?
